Above the vines fly a pair of New Zealand native falcons after which our vineyard is named. The falcons, or karearea, returned to our totara forest and land with the established vineyard, lakes and native plantings.
Our wines are produced from single block handpicked grapes which reflect the character of the land on which the vines are grown.
The 8.10 hectares of vines are located in a unique setting in the high sunshine temperate cool climate area of Spring Grove, south of Nelson, in the Tasman Bay area of the northern South Island of New Zealand.
The Sauvignon Blanc vines are located on the rich, organic silts and gravels of the Wai-iti Valley below, and protected by, the Estate’s mature totara forest. The Pinot Noir and Syrah vineyard is on an elevated north facing free draining ridge of Moutere Gravel terrane where high sunshine, free airflow and frost free situation lends itself to producing premium quality grapes.
Sustainable viticultural practices employed including close planting, balanced soil characters, grassed vineyard, careful cane selection and bunch control along with limited irrigation and spraying deliver premium quality full flavoured vine ripened fruit to the winemaker.
The Moutere Gravel terrane of Tasman Bay is renown for producing premium full bodied reds with excellent balanced concentration, minerality and dark berry characters.
